Endurance and Lifetime Test Bench for Consumer and Household Appliances

For lifetime testing of consumer and household appliances, WSK Elektronik has developed a test system that automatically replicates real operating cycles and reliably runs them over weeks or months. The test bench supports accelerated lifetime testing, conventional endurance testing, and individual tests for final inspection.

The Testing Challenge

Endurance testing of consumer devices generates large volumes of data and must operate safely even without supervision. Sporadic faults must not go unnoticed, while test sequences, load profiles, and limit values need to be flexibly adapted to different development stages and product variants. At the same time, multiple test specimens must be tested in parallel without a single failure blocking the entire test campaign.

The Customized Solution

The test bench accommodates up to 20 test specimens, which can be divided into two independently controlled groups. This enables parallel test campaigns with different test programs or development stages. The operator selects the appropriate test program from a type overview, after which the test runs autonomously.

During testing, all devices are continuously monitored. Parameters recorded include electrical power, voltage, current, temperatures, consumption values, cycle times, and internal device data such as motor, bearing, or electronics temperatures. Measurement values are displayed live on screen, stored, and clearly assigned to each individual test specimen.

If a limit value is exceeded, the affected test specimen is automatically removed from the test while the remaining devices continue to operate. After assessment, the specimen can be reintroduced and testing can continue from the number of cycles already completed – a feature that prevents entire test campaigns from having to be restarted in the event of prototype failures.

Thanks to interchangeable test specimen and actuator modules, the test bench can be flexibly used for different types of devices, such as food processors, coffee machines, kettles, hair dryers, or vacuum cleaners. Depending on the test specimen, media can be supplied and discharged, while filling and emptying cycles can also be automated.

Measurement data is archived locally or on the network in a standard format. Raw data can be evaluated and processed into test reports; additional diagnostic information or fault patterns can also be recorded if required.
